0 Hong Kong
Well, that didn’t take long did it? All sarcasm aside, it took 15 hours of actual flight time but Brandon and I are now sitting in the very fancy Hong Kong airport (Gate 50 if your close by and want to say hi) awaiting our last connecting flight to Ho Chi Minh City. The flight itself was pretty uneventful with Brandon sleeping much of the way (I am so envious) and me fighting with an entertainment system that kept needing to be rebooted. If you haven’t flown on a long-haul international flight to Asia, you are really missing out. Not only did Brandon and I geek out on whole seasons of Parks and Rec but they also had Dexter, Game of Thrones and any number of other tv series to watch on-demand. And when you weren’t sleeping or watching movies, they had a crazy menu including such choices as Hindu Veggie, No Salt, Only Fish, etc. For the record, we opted for Indian food and couldn’t believe how good it was considering.
Three more hours and we will officially start our SE Asian trip.
Stay tuned and know that we miss you all!

0 9 Days till Alex & Brandon’s Excellent Adventure
If you are working this summer or staying home, you may want to stop reading this post. In fact, here is a cute kitty that you might want to check out instead.
In just 9 days, Brandon and I will be sweating through our shirts, navigating unimaginable traffic and be surrounded by foreign languages and customs. While this would normally describe our Phoenix commutes and middle school classrooms, this time it actually means that we’ll be getting on a big plane and jetting off to SE Asia.
Below is our tentative itinerary in a scaffolded, visual form.
Obviously, we are super excited but it doesn’t mean that we’ve forgotten our beloved followers. In fact, we are planning on uploading several posts prior to our departure and have even brought on board a super cool substitute of sorts to keep the site going while we are gone for 40 something days…(Ed: more about her later!)
When possible, we will also attempt to post a few things while in country and you should expect at least a few photos of your two favorite teachers making a mess of things in SE Asia. Cam on in advance Vietnam…Cam on.
For those living vicariously through Brandon and I, send your mailing address to flowerhousepodcastaz@gmail.com and maybe we’ll drop you a postcard. No guarantees of course but we will try!
In the meantime, stay tuned for more updates including videos, a podcast, another summer playlist or two, and maybe even our chosen playlists for the trip.

0 Which Episode Was Your Favorite?
0 Sebastien Tellier – La Ritournell
La Ritournell (Mr. Dan’s remix) holds a special place in my heart. This is probably because it has been my go-to break-up song the last four years or so…Sigh. This is one of those songs that has the uncanny ability to make you forget everything that was ever wrong or unsavory about a past relationship and leaves you with just the highest of highs. Revisionist history? Sure, but what else do you have when it’s over? La Ritournell is a song about love and hope but all to often leaves me melancholy and longing. And for that reason, I will never stop listening to it.
La Ritournelle (the only love song)
Oh nothing’s going to change my love for you
I wanna spend my life with you
So we make love on the grass under the moon
No one call tell, damned if I do
Forever journey on golden avenues
I drift in your eyes since I love you
I got that beat in my veins for only rule
Love is to share, mine is for you
Opinion? Along with Bjork’s All is Full of Love and Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s the Power of Love, it is one of the greatest love songs I’ve ever heard.
