0 True Romance
Featured on podcast #6 way back in December of last year, Citizens! have just offered up a new video for their boppy, sugar-addled, song, True Romance. Unlike the original video, this one veers away from the bollywood influence and actually seems to have a budget. Take a peek at both and decide which you prefer.
New
Original
I love the theme of the new video (can’t stop love ya all!) but couldn’t they have found a way to incorporate the original video’s choreography…those two are badass.

0 Midwest Vibe
Isn’t it funny how you never truly appreciate something until it’s missing or absent from your life? Well, for me, that something is the Midwest. I forget how refreshing the brisk fall air can be, how dramatic the leaf-coloration schemes are, and the amount of character that’s associated with quaint, old homes from the mining days. Enjoy where you live, and celebrate where you came from.

Kopecky Family Band – Heartbeat
Tennis – Guiding Light (Television Cover)
Stumbleine – Fade Into You (Mazzy Star cover feat. Steffaloo)

0 Yearning
10 years ago or so, my mother headed into the desert and never came back. I used to think that it had something to do with wanting to escape the Bay Area masses that, try as she might, she just never quite fit in with. A high school graduate from a small farm in Hawaii, she certainly didn’t work in tech and, try as she might, was never quite able to accumulate that 7 figure retirement account that seemed to grow on trees during the bubble. My mother was a round peg in a city that was seemingly trying to do away with pegs altogether. San Francisco 3.0 – 2002 vintage.
I was happy for her when she made the move because I knew that she was searching for something. Something that urban life and the silicon valley would never be able to give her. Yet, I never quite understood her draw to the desert until I was bitten by the bug myself.
Having made several trips to Death Valley, Joshua Tree, and many other locales over the years, I can tell you that the desert is magical in a way that defies magical. There is no slight of hand, no mirrored illusions, no card tricks. No rabbits or doves. No din of coins dropping or two drink minimums. For me, the desert is the ultimate set for the movie that I wish my life could’ve been. A backdrop that represents independence, resistance, nature and self-sufficiency…my soul’s own USB plug.
Being out here again reminds me what longing means and why it is important. It reminds me that there are places close to home that still tease and allure. Yes, I love SE Asia and will undoubtedly end up there in the very near future. Still, I wish that every one of you could’ve been on that boulder with me last night as I watched the joshua trees reach up and pop the day’s sun. Darkness settling around me, I was struck by just how contented and “full” I felt.
I woke up early this morning and hiked out to a few bouldering spots that I will return to when the sun rises a bit higher. During the walk in, I was listening to music, carrying my crash pad and smiling. In some similar way, I hope your morning was the same.

0 Videos that don’t suck
With fall break a week away and a real dearth of shows here in the valley, you can’t blame Brandon and I for being a little less than motivated. That said, the lack of quality shows has given us a chance to catch up on some videos that we’ve been sitting on for awhile now.
If you’ve been avoiding our youtube channel lately, you’re forgiven. Still, you may want to check back in as we’ve recently uploaded some tasty clips from some damn great bands.
Here is a sampling of recent uploads…
Twin Shadow – Golden Light
Papa – Got to Move
Father John Misty – Hollywood Cemetery Sings (live at the FYF festival)
Stay tuned as we hope to get more videos up soon!
