Why Art Matters
Cambridge’s Alt-J (hit those keys on the mac and you get the ∆ sign) puts out some pretty interesting music. Sometimes referred to as “folk-step”, their music has a stark, percussive quality that either drives me wild or leaves me wanting. That said, the video for Tessellate is all kinds of interesting – not the least of which because it takes its cue from Raphael’s famous painting, School of Athens. (Yes, the video gives that away but honestly, I remembered that picture from the 6th grade!)
Pretty creative stuff here and even if the song doesn’t exactly make you jump out of your seat (I didn’t), I’m betting you’ll have trouble looking away.
Tessellate comes from Alt-J’s debut album, Awesome Wave.
UPDATE: this song has been stuck in my head all day – guess I’m eating some crow.
