Support Absofacto
We’ve made no secret of the fact that we are big Absofacto fans here at the flowerhouse. Besides putting Whose Side Are You On Anyway as the top song on our Episode #3 podcast, we’ve also talked him up numerous times both here on the site, in podcasts, as well as amongst friends and colleagues.
So, why bring this up you ask? Well, Absofacto recently started a kickstarter project in an effort to give his album of singles, Sinking Islands, a physical release. With a goal set of $5k, Absofacto (Jonathan Visger) is hoping to take the currently digital-only download and press it into both CD and vinyl formats. Nice!
The flowerhouse will be supporting Absofacto in this endeavor and we would invite anyone else out there to consider doing the same. As an enticement, I’ve streamed the album below for you to take a listen. To our ears, No Power, Gnat Years, Punch Drunk on Black Mold, and Feathers (Don’t Change on Me) are the standout tracks on a solid album. (Whose side… is an obvious fav too)
As a collection of singles composed over the course of a year, Sinking Islands might seem a little disjointed at first blush. Still, Jonathan has done a yeoman’s job remastering and choosing the order of the songs – all of which works to make it feel like less of a “Best of” and more of an actual album.
So yes, we think his music is deserving but what really resonated with us here is just how earnest and approachable Johnathan seems to be with his fans. In my limited correspondences with him, he came across as humble and genuine – all attributes we value here at the flowerhouse. (see Electric Guest, Delta Rae, Hi Ho Silver Oh!, PAPA, Nurses, etc…)
The donations are staggered at a variety of levels (from $8 to $1k plus) and come with some unique rewards. That said, I’m guessing that anything you can give would be much appreciated. (extra funds over the goal will go towards touring and other goodies!)
Let’s get this done people because I would love to have Absofacto dates in Phoenix this year…or maybe even playing at the flowerhouse!
