The Valley Welcomes the Chillness of Chaz
The coming of March has traditionally brought sentiments of restlessness, and even at times chaos. ’Spring Fever’ strikes this time of year as the dark blanket of winter is slowly whisked away, and the days finally start to elongate to support a more active lifestyle. In the sporting world, March is defined as ‘Mad’ due to the annual collegiate hoops tourney that sends seismic buzz waves across every college campus, Vegas casino, and corporate office in the country. Hell, even the great Roman Emperor, Julius Caesar buckled under the pressures of March.
Thankfully, Phoenicians can breathe easy as the coming of March promises chiller vibes than usual for this time of year. No, I’m not foreshadowing any Leprechaun jazz or Luck of the Irish propaganda. I’m eluding to the upcoming Toro y Moi tour, which is set to hit Phoenix Monday, March 5, 2012. On that day, Mr. Chillwave himself, Chaz Bundick (Toro y Moi), will be sending good vibrations all across the valley with a set thats sure to impress. Chaz has created a sound that is best summarized as dreamy, electro-pop, or chillwave for the non-genre elitists. He is even causally labeled as the forefather of the chillwave scene.
If you need validation, try googling chill wave…a picture of Chaz is first to blow up your screen.
The flowerhouse has been listening to Toro y Moi since the “Blessa” 7″ came out in 2009, and we featured a Vindata remix of the hit single, “Still Sound” on the site a few weeks ago. Chaz is also set to release a throwback vinyl box-set titled, June 2009 in April, which features several previously unreleased, live recordings.
So, forget about St. Patty’s Day, the Duke upset, and even the gorgeous Spring weather, and head down to the Crescent March 5, as this will be a show you won’t want to miss!
If you still need some convincing, I’ve upload some live performances as well as his new single, “Dead Pontoon”
