Chromatics Cover Neil Young…and its great!
Aren't I Fabulous?
Ran across this wonderful cover recently and was kicking myself for not sharing it earlier. Now the original Into the Black is a masterpiece in and of itself but this cover by the Portland based Chromatics does the original justice and then some. Hauntingly simple in production (most of the good covers are, no?), Ruth’s vocals echo the same melancholy undertones of Neil’s original without resorting to vocal hi-jinks or tomfoolery.
It should be mentioned that this iteration of the Chromatics has been working closely with another of my fav PDX bands, Glass Candy.
Bottom line? Portland continues to kill it.
